The lawsuit, Zurwaski v. Texas, was initiated by Amanda Zurawski and other Texas women who were denied abortion care despite facing pregnancy complications that threatened their health.  

The plaintiffs, represented by the Center for Reproductive Rights, argued that the state's abortion bans were not clear enough about when an abortion could be performed to save a pregnant woman's life or protect her health.  They specifically challenged the "medical emergency" exception in the law.
