HIGHLIGHTS

The Lake Travis Democrats hosted Wendy Davis, long-time advocate for Texas women’s healthcare and reproductive rights, at its March 2024 monthly meeting.  Wendy Davis, who is best known for her 13-hour filibuster to block a 2013 abortion bill in the Texas Senate, is in a new role as senior adviser to Planned Parenthood Texas Votes which is the political advocacy and fundraising arm of Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.  At her presentation, Ms Davis addressed the fight to regain basic freedoms for Texas women in healthcare and reproductive rights.

"I've dedicated much of my life to pushing back against extremist attacks on our most fundamental rights," said Davis. "I couldn't sit on the sidelines while those same actors attempt to eradicate the crucial healthcare Planned Parenthood provides to patients across this state and this country each and every day."

Davis added, "Our organization is building the next generation of movement leaders by investing in programs for young people across the state.  We are also investing in programs for supporters and volunteers who want to dedicate more of their time and effort into this work and we are building the pipeline for future success in Texas."

You may listen to Wendy’s engaging conversation, which was moderated by Laurie Higginbotham, attorney and former Lakeway City Council member.
